Some of our most intimate connections with one another are through our shared stories—triumphs and tribulations. As we connect over shared experiences through story telling, be it by page, pen or screen, our ability to understand and relate to one another creates an environment of understanding and compassion rather than judgement and negativity.
This is a love story. The story of family and the love of self.
For your consideration, allow us to present THAT OLD BEAUTIFUL LOVE, a short film directed by Maggie Meiners, based on the flash fiction story written by Kelly Q. Anderson.
Anderson penned THAT OLD BEAUTIFUL LOVE after recalling a childhood birthday party in which a male guest ridiculed her body in front of family as she opened gifts. No one comforted her- instead they tried to shush the guest and downplay his actions.
The story was published in StanchionZine and nominated for Best MicroFiction Awards. Meiners was tapped to write the script in Fall 2022, with production beginning in June 2024.
With a fierce reconsideration of body positivity, Meiners draws a stunning portrait from girlhood to womanhood, letting hope, fire, and resonance play forward in her film.
